TOP SECRET: The 2026 Showcase Briefing

We are at the start of another year of music, and the excitement is hardly a well-kept secret! As we head out for our first rehearsals of 2026, band members are currently intercepting highly classified packs of sheet music for our annual showcase event this May.

We’re feeling quite stirred emotionally about this year’s theme, though our musical confidence remains unshaken. We know our Music Director will lead us toward a definitive Mission: Accomplished.

Our resident Agent of Chaos, Josie, has written another hilarious original storyline. We are currently in negotiations (don't worry, no "truth serum" required yet!) with our favourite Euphemistic Euphoniumist and narrator, John Roden, and the incomparable Mark Oates to return to the field.

We are also incredibly grateful to our network of supporters. Our operative on the Tuba, Bailey, is currently declassifying the potential of his new professional 5-valve instrument—purchased thanks to your generous "funding of our department" last year.

Whether you’re a fan of U.N.C.L.E. or The Avengers, make sure you don't "miss it by that much!" Stay tuned for more intel soon.

LUNCH ON THE LAWNS

Summer days are here!

The Second-Wind Ensemble was invited to help entertain visitors to the beautiful gardens of Government House on 7th November this year. We played an extended playlist with many favourites, and the immediate feedback from our audience was fantastic. It was also wonderful to be welcomed to the gardens personally by the Governor, who affirmed the value of community-based music activity in enhancing well-being.

Lunch on the Lawns is held in the grounds of Government House, North Terrace, Adelaide

on selected Fridays from 12 noon to 2.00 pm until May 2026

Visit the Government House website for more information.

FROM A (VERY) RECENT PERFORMANCE...

This short musical excerpt was taken from the very successful 17th May performance of the Summer of Love show in the Latvian Hall, which featured Adelaide singer/actor Mark Oates. This short recording is taken from the Summer of '69 medley, music arranged by Ted Ricketts.
